Parkfields School Art Exhibition & Family Art Activity Day

We are very excited to once again host the Parkfields School Art Exhibition. This is a wonderful opportunity to see some of the work created by the children from our local schools. The exhibition showcases an age range from reception to upper sixth form and the theme this year is ‘Our World’. The artwork will be on display in our Learning Zone from Saturday 1st July. The exhibition is open to anyone and really is worth a visit. Artwork can be viewed anytime during the Garden Centre opening times. The exhibition finishes on Saturday 8th July with a very special Family Art Activity Day from 10am until 4pm. This is a day when artists give children and adults the opportunity to be creative and try new skills.

Another successful Bonsai Show

Our Learning Zone was full of some fantastic examples of truly amazing bonsai trees during the weekend of the 24th & 25th June as the Bedfordshire Bonsai Society held their annual show. Despite some very warm temperatures, lots of people turned out to see these stunning examples of this ancient art form and shared advice and experiences with the experts from the Society, who were on hand to give out lots of useful tips and information to both bonsai novices & enthusiasts alike. If you are interested in learning more about the care of bonsai or would like to find out more about the Bedfordshire Bonsai Society, then John and his team are at the Garden Centre every Saturday from March to October.

Jigsaw & Hayward Clubs Annual Summer Visit

The Jigsaw & Hayward Clubs enjoyed their annual summer shopping visit to the Garden Centre on Wednesday June 14th which was followed by a lively game of bingo! Both these clubs meet on a weekly basis, the Jigsaw Club in Flitwick and the Hayward Club in Dunstable. These clubs enable those with disabilities to meet up and socialise. The Hayward Club was originally set up as a typing club but now its members have moved on to using ipads and social media. The clubs visit us twice a year and we are very much looking forward to their Christmas shopping visit in November where the two clubs can meet up again.

Little Beans wins big!

It was the Garden Trade News Annual Awards night back in June and who should pick up an award but our very own Little Beans Coffee Shop, winning the Gold Award for the Greatest Garden Centre Coffee Team 2017. Our Catering Services Manager Paul Ward and Head Chef Darren Dimenna were both there to accept the award, presented to them by the 2016 Masterchef winner Jane Devonshire. After receiving the award, Paul said "It’s so nice to be recognised for sourcing the best coffee, investing in training and recruiting great baristas with even better personalities for this pivotal area. I speak for myself and the team when I say how proud we are of what we have achieved and continue to make better. Positivity is like a snowball, it's infectious and I am extremely glad to be part of this place and a part of the team".
