Loose Leaf Tea from Tea from the Manor

We are really excited to announce that we now serve a fantastic range of loose leaf teas from a company who are very passionate about tea. Tea from the Manor are based in Cheshire and supply loose & bagged teas to the likes of the 5-star Chester Grosvenor Hotel, Gardener’s Cottage & the Stables restaurant at Tatton Park. Founded by James Green, a military man who started his army career in the Royal Horse Artillery then spent many years active service in Northern Ireland, Hong Kong & Cyprus. Tea is central to a life of soldiering in good times and times of conflict and this interest in tea stayed with James in ‘civvy street’ and became a passion that sparked the founding of Tea from the Manor. Their blends have been perfected by James to create classic combinations or exciting new flavours. Custom blends are also a specialism. If this sounds like your cup of tea then why not come and try some for yourself. On our menu you can choose from our flavoured range - fresh & fruity Red Berries, sweet & smooth Liquorice or rich & dark Chocolate. Rotary Fundraising Evening raises £2,500!

The team in the Restaurant@Poplars have been thrilled with the many compliments they received for the excellent 3-course dinner, specially prepared by chef Darren & served to one hundred & fifteen guests who gathered for a very special fundraising evening. Arranged by the Rotary Club of Flitwick Vale, the event was held to raise money for their charity EndPolioNow. Darren was set the special challenge to use some of the fifty thousand jars of greengage jam donated to support the charity by the eminent jam makers Wilkins and Sons of Tiptree in Essex. He didn’t disappoint and his Greengage Panna Cotta was a triumph, especially for those with a sweet tooth. The whole team at Poplars got behind the appeal and our suppliers generously donated prizes for the tombola and raffle and in the end, the evening generated an amazing £2,500 for the charity. The Bill and Melinda Gates foundation have been great supporters of the effort to rid the world of polio and for every pound raised by Rotary, they match with a further £2, making a grand total of £7,500. This is enough to vaccinate another 25,000 children. Poplars are proud to have played a part in this campaign. It has taken thirty years to reduce the incidence of polio from 1,000 cases per day to just eight worldwide so far this year. The end of polio is in sight so thank you to everyone who supported this effort.

The ‘C’ word is coming!!

There’s no getting away from the fact that all retailers are gearing themselves up for the return of the big man in the red suit and we’re no different! So we’re sorry if you’re still hoovering sand out of your boot or you haven’t even put your suitcases back up in the loft yet! Our displays will be open on Friday 29th September and we’re sure it’s going to be our biggest and best ever! Our buyers were out in Holland back in January ordering lots of new and exciting products plus some old traditional favourites and they came back with some fantastic ideas to turn our outdoor leisure department into a winter wonderland. Our theme this year is ‘All The Fun Of The Fair’ and we’re 100% sure that you won’t be disappointed. We know for some of you this is all too early but it’s been happening behind the scenes here since July. There is an amazing amount of work that needs to be done before the products appear on our shelves. And because the majority of our decorations come in on one early delivery, it really is a case of once it’s gone, it’s gone so if you see something you like, forget the fact that’s only October and buy it when you see it!!

Love is in the air!

There must be something in the water at Poplars as four members of our staff tie the knot. It would appear that Cupid has been extremely busy this year! Adam, a member of our catering team got married to his lovely wife Amy on Friday 18th september. On Saturday 9th September, our head chef Darren & his fiancée Vicky take the plunge and as they head off to Mexico on their honeymoon, it’s the turn of our General Manager Alastair and our Epos Administrator Mikala to marry each other on Saturday 23rd September! So, on behalf of everyone at Poplars, we hope you will join us in wishing them all many years of happiness and lots of love and luck for their future lives together. And ladies, if you’re waiting for your man to propose, bring him along to Poplars and get him a glass of our water!!
